I can’t remember the last time I laughed this hard at a movie. Well, I might have remembered before but after watching Get Him To The Greek it was all gone. I was laughing so hard that I wound up missing a good portion of the dialogue because I couldn’t hear it. Jonah Hill is Aaron, the intern that has to head to London and pick up Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) and make sure he gets to the Greek Theatre in 3 days. Sounds easy enough but Aldous Snow is an out of control rock star who loves to party. Just before Aaron left for London he had broken up with his girlfriend and it doesn’t take much for Aldous to convince him that a good party will make him feel better. What follows is 3 days of insanity while Aaron does his best to keep Aldous happy and on time for his concert.

From the moment the movie stars I was laughing my ass off. I’m not the biggest fan of Jonah Hill but even he had me cracking up in this one. Russell Brand and Sean Combs, who steals all his the scenes he’s in, were even more funny and it was non-stop laughter through the whole movie. The songs in the movie were awesome and I can’t get them out of my head now, especially Furry Walls referencing the best part of the movie. The flick did slow down a little bit towards the end when they start exploring Aaron’s relationship and Aldous’ relationship with his ex-wife but even those situations get turned into something hilarious and insane after a few minutes and ending in the worlds most odd threesome ever.

Russell Brand is amazing in the film and the songs performed were hilarious.

I had heard that Sean Combs was hilarious in the movie but I had no idea just how much. His reactions to situations cracked me up every time and when he joins Aaron and Aldous in a hotel room in Vegas I thought my sides would split open, spilling my insides everywhere. That entire hotel room scene was my favorite of the movie. Smoking a Jeffrey, furry walls and poor Aaron on the receiving end of a rubber penis left my buddy and I crying. My only regret is that I waited so long to see this one.

Sean Combs is hilarious, even as a floating head.

There really isn’t much more to say about the movie beyond it being one of the most funny films I’ve ever seen. I’m usually not a fan of comedies but this one is a true hit. It helps that Russell Brand is playing a rock star. The songs that are in the film are just as funny as the jokes but they’re also well done. I find it weird that some songs created specifically for a movie manage to be better than 90% of the crap music that is really out there. Watching Brand perform as Aldous Snow also brings back fond memories of actually being on stage for me so the film manages to connect with me in that way.

If you haven’t seen this one, although I think I may be one of the few people left who hadn’t, then take some of that time off you have and watch it. If the strain of screaming kids, visiting relatives and an endless stream of garbage to clean up left you wiped out after Christmas then Get Him To The Greek should deliver some of that energy you need. It’ll also make you laugh so much that it’ll erase any bad memory that may have come up over the holidays!

  1. Laer says:

Okay, you got me adding that one to my list of films to see. Wasn’t going to before, but you got me curious. I know I went into The Hangover expecting nothing good, and was pleasantly surprised.

  2. Andrew says:

The opening line sums this up really well. Many moments were so completely raucous that I wound up missing stuff in their wake, specifically just about anything involving P. Diddy, who stole the movie.

  3. Laer man, I just didn’t really dig The Hangover. Everyone was hyping it up and when I saw it, it just didn’t really get me laughing.

You can now take my advice, and Andrews as well, and be secure in the knowledge that Get Him To The Greek should kick your ass with hilarity!
