It’s Contest Time Again!

Yes, it’s finally contest time around The Film Reel again and for two reasons.

1. Cello over at Japan Cinema demands it! HAHA!

2. I stumbled across a pic for an action figure of the new Freddy Krueger (which I’ll bitch about in a moment) and I had a Freddy Krueger figure to give away!

So I’ll stick to the good news first before I tear into the new Freddy Krueger. What I’ve got up for grabs this month, I’ll decide when the contest ends soon but it’ll probably be about 2 weeks from now, is a Mez-Itz Freddy Krueger. Check it out!

I’ve got one myself and it’s pretty funky. His cute little hat comes off and his arms go up and down but that’s about it. There was also a Jason figure but I couldn’t pick it up in time to offer it as well. I did get one for myself! Sorry guys, that one is all mine though. I picked this one up at The Comic Warehouse. This is the same comic book shop that I’ve been shopping in since I first moved to Brampton over 20 years ago. They’re still going strong and they also have an Ebay store so everyone should check them out. Either way I’ll still be shopping there!

Now let me bitch for a moment. I just caught this pic over at Shock Till You Drop and you know I had to throw my 2 cents in.

What the hell is going on here??? I am dumbstruck over this flick. Every time I see the trailer now I’m more and more impressed with the look of the film. It’s dark and grimy, you’ve got Freddy slinking through the shadows and it looks awesome, there’s those classic moments from the original peppered throughout. You would think that I would be hyped for this movie but I can feel the pain already.

It’s going to be one of those movies that I want to love so bad and will end up (hopefully I won’t, fingers crossed) hating. The voice is what really threw me off in the trailer and that one shot that we get a semi good glimpse at Freddy’s face sent a shiver down my spine. But not in a good way. And now we get that lovely pic of the soon to be action figure.

Listen, I get that he’s supposed to be a burn victim but I’m sick of the realism they try to throw in these movies now. The guy kills people in their dreams and then they wind up dead in real life with giant slash marks all over their bodies. Last time I checked that was as far from realistic as it could get. Why the need to make him look like a real burn victim. He’s the otherworldy killer in a slasher flick. I want him to look scary, messed up and menacing. Looking like this I kinda feel bad for the guy. Being burned like this is obviously not a pleasurable experience and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s hard to get into the villain when you keep thinking how terrible his life must be as a third degree burn victim.

Finally, I can’t help but think when I look at that picture that he really looks like a Na’vi from Avatar got caught in the blast by the big tree. I think he’s even in the flick for a second. I mean, check this picture that I made found!

I told you, Freddy Krueger was in Avatar all along! © The Film Reel

I knew he looked familiar! Well, that’s enough bitching for me. Get over to the contest page and win yourself a real Freddy Krueger figure!

Ahahahahah! Epic Photoshopping skills there dude!!!

  2. hagiblog says:

Yeah, not bad for 30 mins at the comp with Char. She helped me figure out how to make him blue or I would have been stumped!

  3. Castor says:

Muahahah. Great Avatar pic! I’m pretty pump for the remake myself although I expect to be disappointed

What bits I’ve seen from trailers and behind the scenes stuff looks great. Dark and gritty stuff. I’m just not impressed by the apparent look (I haven’t seen an actual studio pic of Freddy yet but I’m not holding out hope) and sound of Haley as Freddy.

They’ll be hard pressed to pull it off better than Englund did but if they hadn’t changed his look so much it might not have been such a bitter pill to swallow. Seriously, these guys need to give up this ‘more realistic’ approach to the classic horror characters.

Dude, I went for a popcorn refill and totally missed Freddy’s cameo! Damn!

Also, I have all the respect in the world for Jackie Earle Haley’s ability to skeer the pants right off everybody — every time he was on screen in “Watchmen” he gave me the willies. If the movie is crap, it won’t be because of him.

  7. hagiblog says:

Seeing as how he’s almost the same character in Watchmen as in Nightmare, I can’t imagine he’d be too bad. He only speaks maybe one line in the trailer and it sounded off but that’s one line so I can’t hold it against him. The look of Freddy isn’t his fault either so I can’t blame him for how stupid Freddy will look now.

I’m hoping that this flick is good but I think once Freddy steps out of the shadows and you can see him, all the good parts of the film won’t matter anymore.

  8. Cello says:

yeah i bow to your photoshopping skillz!

  9. hagiblog says:

What? Photoshop? I don’t know what you’re talking about! Freddy was in Avatar, I swear it! HAHA!
