Flint Lockwood, aspiring inventor, searches for a way to turn water into food when the small town he lives in starts losing business when its sardine factory closes down and people are forced to live on the remaining sardines. When his invention winds up in the atmosphere, it causes it to rain food. Food that seems to be getting bigger with every storm.

Finally I got my kids to watch a 3D movie and we all loved it! In fact, my son actually sat still through the whole movie and never turned his head away from the screen. That’s an accomplishment for any film around here! It’s got all the ingredients of a typical animated flick. The unassuming character who becomes the hero, the love story, the comedy, the bad guy (the mayor who’s voiced by Bruce Campbell) and of course the touching story of the hero overcoming some obstacle.

Flint Lockwood and my favorite character, Steve the monkey!
Flint Lockwood lives in a small town where everyone’s livelihood is based on sardines. When the world realizes that sardines are gross, Flints town gets desperate to find a way to reinvent themselves. He tries to invent a machine that will turn water into food so the people can stop eating sardines and when his invention gets stuck in the atmosphere, the mayor sees a way to turn the town into the worlds biggest tourist attraction.
There are lots of little subplots going on as well. Flint’s Dad doesn’t understand him since his Mother died and he’s also found a love interest in an intern who wants to be a weather girl. Not to mention he has to deal with the mayor who only wants his invention for his own selfish greed. Eventually the food begins to be ‘alive’ and they must battle against it to stop a giant storm of enormous food from covering the globe.
Enough with the story though, this was great fun to watch. My favorite part being Steve the monkey who has a translation device strapped to him. Apparently monkeys don’t have much going on in their heads since Steve only says a few words over and over again. But that’s why he’s so funny, that and his addiction to gummi bears which turns into one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

Flint programs it and then it falls from the sky.
It was great fun and the 3D isn’t over used so you know the movie can be enjoyed without it. It’s a really fun story with plenty of laughs for everyone. Of course it carries all the messages that most kids flicks will have and there’s always a happy ending. Knowing that you’ll be getting the same type of plot points means the movie has to work extra hard to get my approval and Cloudy does just that. Great times were had by all of us, and especially for the woman behind us who squealed with delight anytime the 3D really jumped out at you. Apparently this was the first movie she’d seen in 3D since the old days of the red and blue glasses! HAHA!

Hooray!
I wanted to see it this weekend with Broz but family chaos ensued and was unable to. I’m so glad you liked it because my hubby is DETERMINED to get us to the theatre to see it, and with The Informant and Zombieland coming out, I’m not sure if I’ll make it now.
Well, this one is at least family friendly so family night can be Cloudy and date night can be Zombieland! Oh man, I can’t wait to see that one! When is it anyway, Oct 2nd or something? I gotta make sure to head out the first weekend for it.
Yub yub. I’ll be going by myself if I have to!
Definitely an enjoyable movie that I was surprised how much I enjoyed watching it as an adult.
